“A New Beginning”
As most of you know by now, The Rebel Run is moving to the Shelby Co. Fairgrounds in Sidney, Ohio. The dates for the show
are Sept. 20th – 22nd, 2013. Let me explain to you why and how I came to this decision. The Allen Co. Fairgrounds scheduled a
wedding reception, for one of their employees, on Saturday afternoon during the car show. The fairgrounds is 150 acres, but they
wanted approximately 40% of the grassy area, including the pond and shelter house. This is almost half of the space we use,
not to mention the best looking place on the grounds. (see map)
This was unacceptable to me and very inconsiderate on their part to treat us this way, especially after 13 years. I have had
trouble with this fairboard for the past 3 years and this was the last straw. I have paid the fairgrounds approx. $200,000.00 over
the last 13 years, and together we have brought into the Lima community over 12 million dollars. (I hope this wedding reception
generates the same amount of revenue that we did.) Last year if you recall the fairgrounds took half of the grounds for the horse
show and now this year they wanted more and the price was going to be the same. So I bid farewell to the Allen Co. Fairgrounds
with only one regret, I should have moved years ago.
